  1. Node ablation with pacemaker is the last resort and stay away from that as you will be dependent on the pacemaker to have a heartbeat. A pacemaker that keeps your rhythm up to a normal bpm is a different story. Neither one "cures" afib. Which one are you talking about?
  2. Pete,

I use Firefox to access this site. Yesterday and today I received a message that site doesn't meet minimum for firefox and I had to try a T1 something. Just wanted to let administrators know of possible problem.

  4. Ok I'll take you up on that "ask me anything" offer you made.

Is there any device that can provide me with a true heart rate if I am in persistent afib?  I would like to work out but thought I should ease into walking / lifting.

How does a Dr determine if ones afib is persistent or "that other term" parasomething?

Does asymptomatic mean I really never know that I'm in afib ?

    Thanks, RayS

Paroxysmal is less than 7 days in afib at a time. 7 or more days at a time up to "always" in afib is persistent.

Asymptomatic is when you don't feel fish flopping in your chest, breathing problems, chest pains, or other uncomfortable feelings that are not tolerable like fainting or dizziness. Just being tired could be many benign things or unrelated things or reaction to medicines like betablockers.

I have an Omron HEM 780 BP machine and an Omron HCG 801 portable ECG. Take readings after you have been exercising for 20 minutes. You have to stop to do that. I use both to validate what the other machine read. You get a 30 second reading and that is enough.

  5. Pete,

If there weren't as many "crossovers" would the trial have given us any new indications or is the fact that the study was not really not long enough  the main issue to draw empirical conclusions?

It costs a max of $200 if you do it yourself. If the doctor refers you it will be covered.

  9.  Hi Pete,

Have perormed much research on it yet.  Maybe you can provide me with a headstart.  Is there a certain protocol typically followed in the cath lab to re-induce.  I know Isoproterenol if often used.  What else??

    Thanks,

    Rob

      Adenosine and isoproterenol

  10. Pete,

I am trying again!  Don't know if these posts are getting to you?

Hope you are doing well?  Please let me know if you can communicate with me and some tips to do so?

Hi: Just got this message from you! Pete

  11. Hi Petey,

Glad I found you on this site - don't quite understand how to post on it yet?  Good luck with your upcoming colonoscopy!

I am still in chronic a-fib but have to take Carvedilol for rate control and a small dose of Cartia (diltitazem) to keep heart rate below 100.  I also still take Lisinopril, bp fine! Sertraline, my oxazepam and since my insurance won't pay for Eliquis anymore, I have had to go on pradaza (so far so good) but scared of it.  The only symptoms I have are the irregular h.b. which I don't feel, some tiredness, but I decided to walk and exercise more as my legs had trouble keeping up with my walking!!!!! I am not having any surgery, and the Drs are pleased with my progress but I still worry about being in persistent  a-fib as I have read how it will weaken your heart - know you are an expert on this.  Please write to me and hope you and your family are well.

    Hugs,

    Christine

  12. Hi Pete,

As you know, AFL returned 8 months after the 4th ablation.  I'm giving it one more shot.  This time Natale is going to do it himself.  Hopefully the debacle will hide for many years!!!!!

What was the topic? I notice sometimes it is in draft somewhere on the forum.  Click NEW TOPIC again, and maybe it will come back up.

I found it made numerous references to yourself and providing "links" if they exist thru clinic trials..portable monitors suck and very rarely should they be relied upon.  There probably has been no scientific comparsion studies vis a vie portable monitors....  should I leave you out?.  A lot of what I wrote while serious is also humorous.  want me to send u a copy of the unedited version??

  13. Hi: It started with njgolfer inferring that this website (Mellanie's non-profit) is gaming the system and milking it for money. We don't want to censor anyone or have them be required to donate, but to bite the hand that feeds you and smear the person that set up a forum is really unacceptable and bizarre.  then she corrects everyone and I am not the only one that told her to relax. Something is wrong with her. I actually know who she is and I know she was on some kind of a committee or org to raise money for Jill Stein... so that has to tell you something.

Hi, Pete. I did a quick search of her screen name and came up with someone with a great golf handicap, who loves wine and restaurants and has a boat, and who is interested in duck hunting. I'd assumed she was in Canada (I thought she said Ontario), but the "njgolfer" in my quick search lives in New Jersey or perhaps the "New York area."

I thought her challenge to Mellanie and the forum was odd, too. She had such a knee-jerk reaction to what she took as a request for money. Talk about an overreaction. She looked up Mellanie's 990, and without knowing anything about StopAfib's and Mellanie's mission, decided she didn't like what she saw. What bothered me is after all of us repeatedly said StopAfib is not a scam or a gravy-train for Mellanie's family, she didn't relent at all.

After your back-and-forth with her, I think EB's advice in that thread makes sense. Don't engage her. Say what you think and move on. She's not going to change her mind no matter how reasonable what you or I or anyone else has to say is. Fortunately, most of us come to StopAfib to learn, but every so often, someone like njgolfer comes along who is taking out her frustrations on the rest of us. I think if we keep our distance, she'll either mellow or go away.

  14. Hi, When I looked up  AliveCor Mobile ECG for iPhone and Android  the site suggested it was only available in Australia.  Where did you purchase your AliveCor?

    Kind regards,

    Mathile

I don't have one. I have an OMRON ECG: HCG 801.

  15. Hey Pete: The warfarin gig is getting me ready to turn into an alcoholic.  Too many variables - when measured either by finger stick or blood draw - to achieve a correct reading.  I'm now looking closely at Praxda or Eliquis.  My primary Doc is gun shy about the new NOAC's for me with my low platelet numbers.  With your low platelet counts how has Pradaxa worked for you?  I'll be planning a visit soon with the man who SHOULD know - my hematologist --  to get his $0.02 on this subject.

    Thanks!

Interesting --- I have a Primary care Doc visit this coming week (she's a young female, but does work with the patients quite well) followed by a blood draw for INR a couple days later.  Over the past number of months, my warfarin dosage has been increased approx 50% (from 5mg daily to 7.5mg daily) yet my PT and INR numbers are all over the place.  Chubabubba has stated when a finger stick is not performed correctly (ie: an additional drop of blood added to the first drop in the test strip) is a no-no and results in a false "low" INR number.  I see my hematologist and or his P.A. in a week and a half.  I'll quiz them both on the subject of do varying blood platelet counts have any effect on INR / PT figures?  At my primary docs appt. on Tuesday, I'm going to insist we start back at square one with a dosage of 5mg daily and see how the results go.   Then the following week, see what my hematologist thinks of the new NOAC's .  BTW: I stumbled across an ad for the drug "Savaysa"  (Edoxaban).  Never heard of it before- have you?

I heard of it. Approved in 2015.
