Mellanie True Hills, CEO of StopAfib.org will be participating on a panel on Informing Care Decisions: Emerging Technologies, Scientific Evidence, and Communication at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Annual Conference on September 14, 2009.
Can you help? The panel will examine AHRQ's recent report on radio-frequency catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation that was one of the first Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) studies released under the government-mandated CER initiative. Please share your thoughts and comments about the study and the questions below so that we can bring them into that discussion.
Below are three questions that the panel will discuss, and we'd love your thoughts based on the results of this catheter ablation study:

What is the perception of different stakeholders (including patients and physicians) about the state of the evidence of emerging technologies and the balance of potential benefits and harms? What messages are reaching patients and other stakeholders from the media, direct-to-consumer advertising, or other sources? How do we communicate what is known and what is not yet known about emerging technologies? Please add your comments here in the discussion forum by 9/12/09. If you're new to the forum, use these 3 easy steps: Register, Click the activation link in the validation e-mail, and then Click on this Topic link to add your comments.
Thanks so much for your help in making sure that your voice is heard and incorporated in atrial fibrillation studies.
